ACME includes all of the fields and specialties of animation. For each of the areas listed below, there are ACME Challenges, separate galleries to show work, numerous resources, specialized Master Classes, and experienced professionals who give feedback on projects.

 ANIMATION
ACME challenges include all the principles of animation. Doing them is a rich and engaging exploration of all the elements of art and design.
Effects Animation  - Design in Motion
Character Animation  - Creation of an Illusion of Life

 LAYOUT
Layout artists draw the settings and environments of a film. They are the set designers, cinematographers, and fine artists for an animated film. Projects include: composition; landscapes and architecture; lighting and shading; dramatic staging; cultural and historical research; story interpretation and style.

 VISUAL DEVELOPMENT & CHARACTER DESIGN
A very creative activity, visual development is the exploration of style and design possibilities of a film project. It includes character designs, costumes, environments and the visual elements that will be used to convey the personalities, settings and moods of the film.

 CGI SPECIALTIES
Computer Generated Imagery enables animation to be used in many fields, including animated filmmaking. Although the animation and artistic principles are the same, CGI tools have created new skill areas, such as rigging, modeling and lighting. Pro specialists give feedback on projects in all these areas.

 STORYBOARDING
Storyboard artists are experts in the audience experience. They work at the first stage of cinematic storytelling, developing and structuring the story. Their goal: use the fundamentals art, design and communication for a clear and captivating  story. Story artists visually explore many disciplines, such as literature, historical periods and even science.

 LIFE DRAWING
Most animators are Renaissance artists whose canvas is a moving reflection of life. The first thing studios look for in an artist’s portfolio is life drawings that show an understanding of anatomy, movement and three dimensional representation. More than a portrait, life drawings need to communicate a personality that lives in the real world. Even apparently simple characters in an animated show were probably drawn by someone whose imagination is matched with much skill in human figure drawing. Chuck Jones said: "The whole essence of good drawing - and of good thinking, perhaps - is to work a subject down to the simplest form possible and still have it believable for what it is meant to be."
